Our history

Nvirocool started in 2011 and kept building from the early work already associated with this domain into a practical refrigeration service for the Eastern Cape. From Newton Park in Gqeberha, we have grown with one focus, keeping cold rooms, chillers and temperature-controlled systems working properly in real conditions.

Our history

2011: A small local service with a clear purpose

Nvirocool began in 2011 with simple aims, fix what is broken, keep equipment running longer, and help businesses use less power where possible. The early work centred on refrigeration support for shops, warehouses, kitchens and production sites that needed dependable service in Gqeberha and nearby towns.

From the start, the work was hands on. That meant responding to breakdowns, checking leaks, cleaning coils and helping clients get through summer heat, humid coastal air and the pressure that comes when cold storage cannot wait. The company grew by doing the basics well and turning up when promised.

2014 to 2017: Maintenance became the steady core

As more clients asked for regular support, planned maintenance became a major part of the business. Instead of only attending emergency calls, the team began setting up service schedules that suited butcheries, food stores, wholesalers and cold storage users who could not afford surprise downtime.

During these years, the service list became more structured and the company built a stronger routine around prevention. That included routine inspections, cleaning, temperature checks and early fault finding before small issues turned into bigger repair bills.

  • Planned Maintenance for cold rooms and chillers
  • Emergency Breakdowns when systems stopped without warning
  • Cold Room Repairs for doors, seals, fans and controls
  • Leak Detection to reduce gas loss and repeated callouts

2018 to 2020: Energy pressure changed the conversation

By 2018, energy costs and stricter client expectations pushed the business to look harder at efficiency. Cooling systems that ran all day and night were no longer judged only on temperature, but also on what they cost to operate. That shift led to more energy audits, coil cleaning and control upgrades.

The team also started guiding clients toward lower impact refrigeration gas options where suitable, while keeping in mind the age of the plant and the way each site was used. On some sites a full replacement was not practical, so careful retrofit work made more sense. A lot of the value came from measured improvements rather than big promises.

  • Energy Audits for sites under pressure to reduce power use
  • Control Upgrades for better temperature stability
  • Coil Cleaning to improve heat transfer and reduce strain on compressors
  • Low-GWP Conversions where equipment and conditions allowed it

2020 to 2022: Keeping sites going through supply pressure and load-shedding

Those years brought extra pressure across the Eastern Cape. Loadshedding, supply delays and tighter budgets meant clients needed practical support, not theory. Nvirocool’s focus stayed on keeping systems alive through real site conditions, especially where one failed unit could affect stock, deliveries or daily trading.

The service team spent more time on temperature monitoring, breakdown response and quick decision making around repairs versus replacement. On coastal sites, humidity and salt air kept causing extra wear, while inland clients faced dusty conditions and long distances between towns. The business adjusted around those realities, not the other way round.

By this stage, the work was no longer just about refrigeration faults. It was about helping clients manage risk, protect product and plan maintenance around the way their sites actually operated.

2023: A stronger team and clearer roles

As the business matured, the team structure became more defined. That helped Nvirocool serve more clients without losing the direct, personal service that early customers expected. The Newton Park base in Gqeberha became the working centre for coordination, scheduling, admin and technical planning.

Today the team includes MD Anele Mbeki-Jacobs, with Ayabulela Ndlovu coordinating service, Leanne Petersen managing accounts, Siyabonga Mthembu leading senior refrigeration repairs, Ruan Smit heading retrofit projects, Nokulunga Dlamini handling energy audits, and Yolanda Jacobs looking after client care. Each role supports the same goal, steady service and practical follow-through.

  • Better scheduling for planned maintenance visits
  • Quicker communication on breakdowns and parts needs
  • More detailed reporting on energy use and faults
  • Cleaner handover between site visits and office support

Today: A Gqeberha base serving the wider Eastern Cape

Nvirocool now works across Gqeberha, Uitenhage, Despatch, Jeffreys Bay, Graaff-Reinet and Port Alfred, with support shaped around each area’s needs. A cold room in a coastal food store does not face the same demands as a chiller on an inland commercial site, so the service approach stays specific and practical.

The current work covers Planned Maintenance, Emergency Breakdowns, Cold Room Repairs, Chiller Servicing, Low-GWP Conversions, Leak Detection, Energy Audits, Coil Cleaning, Control Upgrades and Temperature Monitoring. The aim has stayed the same since 2011, keep cooling systems dependable, make running costs easier to manage, and help clients avoid avoidable failure.

From the original business history linked to this domain to the company it is today, Nvirocool has kept moving by doing the work properly and staying close to the client site. That is still the standard.
